HAND PAINTED PORCELAIN LANDSCAPE VASES
Our new hand painted vases in Mont Blanc porcelain are one-of-a-kind pieces created
with a special technique we have developed exclusively over the past several years.
Using coloured porcelain slips of our own composition, we are able to create watercolour-like painting effects in porcelain
inspired by landscapes in traditional Chinese scroll paintings.
Our colour palette is more Fauvist, with strong use of colour and bold forms.
This technique that we have been developing allows us to use the coloured porcelain as the ‘paint’ while the finished pieces remain matte.
This is something that we have been exploring since 2015 with our first series of coloured matte porcelain and stoneware pieces.
With this latest evolution of the process we have moved from just colouring and casting, and into a more expressive painterly phase
which combines both the rigours of casting porcelain, and painting with the same material.
The process is time consuming: once cast, the vases need to dry extremely slowly for a minimum of three weeks,
before the first slow firing at 1060° C., which takes 24 hours.
The vases that survive the first firing are then glazed by hand with a matte glaze, and fired again at 1220° C. to render them watertight.
This laborious process ensures that each vase is unique, featuring the subtle variations and irregularities typical of handmade ceramics.
